The Board of Assessors is a 3-member board, appointed by the Town Administrator for a term of 3 years.
The Office of the Assessors is required by Massachusetts’s law to list and value all real and personal property as of January 1. All assessed values in Massachusetts are based on “full and fair cash value”. The assessors are responsible for meeting the certification requirement of the Department of Revenue. To meet these requirements, the Assessors are obligated to revalue all properties yearly, and once every three years undergo a state recertification audit.

Harald Scheid
Harald Scheid has served the Town and its Board of Assessors as the Principal Assessor since April 2002. His responsibilities include appraising all real estate and personal property within the Town for property tax purposes, assisting with tax abatements and appeals, preparing Department of Revenue reports and tax rate related filings, and interacting with property owners about their many tax issues and questions.
