Mount Vernon Cemetery is located just to the east of the Common.   While many old and historic graves are located here, the cemetery is still operating today.  Mount Vernon Cemetery is the location of Beaman Cemetery, which holds 60 graves that were moved up from the valley during the construction of the Wachusett Reservoir.

The Mount Vernon Cemetery is operated by the Board of Cemetery Trustees, which is made up of three members, elected for a 3-year term.  One seat on the Board of Cemetery Trustees is elected each year.
