The Department of Public Works was created by Town Meeting vote in May of 2004 and consolidates the functions of the Office of the Tree Warden, Streets and Parks Department and the Sewer Department.
John K. Westerling
Mr. Westerling was appointed as West Boylston's first ever Director of Public Works in June 2004. That position was created by combining the responsibilities of the Superintendent of Streets and the Superintendent of Sewers and Drains into one position. Prior to that, he served as West Boylston's first ever Superintendent of Sewers and Drains for a period of two and one-half years.
Mr. Westerling brought 15 years of Public Works experience to the job from the neighboring town of Holden, where he served as a Civil Engineer and a Planning Coordinator.
He received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1985. He also completed post-graduate work in business studies as he works towards his Masters in Business Administration.
Mr. Westerling serves on the Board of Directors for both the Upper Blackstone Water Pollution Abatement District and the Worcester County Highway Association. He is also a member of the American Public Works Association.
